[ PORTFOLIO OVERVIEW ]

Overview

A portfolio review is required to be considered for the Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) degree track. Prospective students may attempt to pass the portfolio review a maximum of two times. If you wish to have "unofficial" feedback on your artwork or advice on how to possibly strengthen your portfolio so that you are better prepared for your "official" review, please contact the School of Art at (419) 372-0107 or artschool@bgsu.edu.

Portfolio Guidelines

Your portfolio should consist of 10-15 pieces only of your strongest and most recent artwork made in the last year to year and a half. Show a breadth of media including any combination of 2-D pieces (drawing, painting, photography and printmaking), 3-D pieces (ceramics, glass, jewelry/metals and sculpture), and time-based work if applicable (video, animation, and interactive multimedia). One piece must be a self-portrait (be as imaginative as you wish). Also, bring your current sketchbook.

For your official portfolio review into the BFA track do not submit a media focus. Also, refrain from submitting artwork that is copied or rendered from photographs, magazines, or other artists' works. If your artwork is collaborative, please include the names and roles of participants in the completion of the piece (for example, scriptwriter, director, or editor, in a co-produced video).
