BGSUGD 2009 Graphic Design Senior Portfolio Show

May 8, 2009

Where: Where: BGSU Fine Arts Center building (School of Art, Gallery Lobby)

Time: 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM

Join us for our annual BGSUGD 2009 Graphic Design Senior Portfolio Show. Nearly 40 graduating GD seniors have been working diligently all semester in their Senior Studio in Graphic Design capstone course to reach this special day — a day which officially marks their transition into the professional world of graphic design. Come, meet these talented graphic designers in person, view their work, give them feedback and support, and most importantly, congratulate them on having completed their B.F.A. in Graphic Design degree!

Two regionally-based guest graphic design professionals will be on hand to privately review the work of the graduating seniors from 11:00am-12:30pm, with the public showing of all portfolios beginning promptly at 12:30pm. Recognition of the top three portfolios, as determined by the design professionals, will be announced at approximately 1:00pm. Students and their portfolios will be available from 12:30pm-1:30pm.

Light refreshments will be available. Students, family and friends are encouraged to attend!

New Perspectives in Visual Culture: 3rd Annual Undergraduate Symposium in Art History

April 18, 2009

Where: School of Art, Room 204

Time: 9:00 AM to 5:30 PM

Students from around the country will gather at BGSU to participate in The New Perspectives in Visual Culture: 3rd Annual Undergraduate Symposium in Art History on Saturday, April 18, 2009. Such an experience provides young scholars with a rare opportunity to present their own work and gain professional experience in the field of art history while still developing their skills. Papers presented engage in new and creative ways to interpret issues concerning art history and visual culture. The papers presented are grouped thematically into four panels including: Visions of Americana, Observations and Gender, Ideology of the State: Supported and Subverted and Artist, Patron and Image. The panels will begin at 11:00, 12:15, 2:30 and 3:45 respectively. The format of the conference will allow for the audience to listen to three presenters per panel and enter into a discussion with each of them at the end of the session. Through this approach, the theme of each paper can be contrasted and juxtaposed to the others in the same panel in hopes that deeper connections can be revealed. Mr. Lawrence Nichols, Curator of European Painting and Sculpture before 1900, will present the Keynote lecture at 10:00 a.m.
