ARTalks: Animated Films by Karen Aqua: A Personal Vision
September 17, 2009
Where: Student Union Theater, BTSU Room 206, BGSU
Time: 7:00 PM to 8:00 PM
For over thirty years, Karen Aqua has been working as an independent animator. Her hand-drawn films are personal explorations of the human spirit, concerning themes of duality, journeys, ritual, and physical and emotional transformation. Her work reflects an interest in symbols, mythology, and prehistoric and tribal cultures, as well as rhythm, dance, and music. She is interested in film as poetry, and expressing ideas that are abstract and nonverbal. Aqua will screen and discuss her films, from early work to her most recent. She will comment on her approach to animation, her creative process, and her life as an independent animator.
