ARTalks: Jud Yalkut, "Variations in Vision and Video"

September 5, 2008

Where: 204 Fine Arts Center

Jud Yalkut will talk about his amazing career as one of the originators of video installation, and his theme of inner contemplation and the Surrealist influences visible in his collages. Born and raised in New York, Yalkut worked with South Korean-born American artist Nam June Paik, who is considered to be the father of video art. Together they created some of the first video art shown in New York in the 1960s.

His talk will be followed by a Reception for the Artist in the Wankelman Gallery.

Surrealist collages and two video installations by this video pioneer can be seen in the Gallery exhibit, V3: Variations in Vision & Video: Recent Work by Jud Yalkut. Willard Wankelman Gallery (August 30 through Oct. 25) "...

A six-time recipient of Individual Artist Fellowships from the Ohio Arts Council and three OAC Artists Project grants, Yalkut was also awarded a Writing-in-Media grant from the New York State Council on the Arts for his book-length manuscript Electronic Zen. A solo retrospective, "Dream Reels: VideoFilms and Environments by Jud Yalkut" was held at the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York in 2000.
