Peter Gourfain


September 30 through November 10, 2005

Where: Fine Arts Center - Willard Wankelman Gallery

Ceramics, sculpture and prints by this artist portray the human struggle and make vivid comments on social injustice in America. Gourfain has exhibited his work in solo shows at the Brooklyn and Elvehem Museums, and inexhibitions at the Guggenheim Museum, Museum of Modern Art and the Jewish Museum in New York, among others.

Rick Valicenti is principal and principle of Thirst , a group devoted to the creation of Art with Function. Valicenti is a member of AGI, a former president of the Society of Typographic Art, a board member of AIGA/Chicago, and a juror for the National Endowment for the Arts' Presidential Design Awards. He has twice been nominated for a Chrysler Design Award, and has had one-person shows in Osaka and Tokyo. Thirst works are in the permanent collection of The Cooper-Hewitt National Design Museum. Clients include Gilbert Paper, Herman Miller, Holly Hunt, The Monacelli Press, Fireorb and the Illinois Institute of Technology's College of Architecture.

Rob Erdle is the Regent's Professor of Art at the University of North Texas in Denton and has served as the head of the watercolor painting program from 1976. Rob served as the Director of the New York Chautauqua Institution Art Gallery and Summer School of Art from 1977-1982. He has held over 30 One-Man Exhibitions across the U.S. Rob's most recent 1999 international shows were viewed in Portugal and Switzerland. Rob's works are in the collections of the New Orleans Museum of Art, Springfield Art Museum, Price Waterhouse, Texas Instruments, Southwestern Bell and many others.

Remy Miller received his B.F.A. from the University of Connecticut and his M.F.A. from Bowling Green State University in Ohio. He has taught at St. Olaf College, the Toledo Museum of Art at the University of Toledo and Bowling Green State University and since 1987 at the Memphis College of Art. His paintings and drawings have appeared in exhibitions in Kentucky, Colorado, Arkansas, Mississippi, Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Ohio and New York and the Memphis Arts Festival and the Memphis Brooks Museum of Art. Miller was the Tennessee editor for New Art Examiner (1989-91).

Panel discussion will be followed by a reception at 5:00pm

TEA TIME with Matt McGovern

Matt McGovern, first year graduate student in ceramics, will talk about his travels and work as a potter in Africa.

TEA TIME is meant to be a half hour presentation where we will be inviting faculty from around the school and university to come and give short slide talks while having tea and donut holes. It is supposed to be a nice break at the end of the week where students and faculty can relax and exchange ideas while having a bit of tea and sugar!

Bring your own mug! This is open to the BGSU community - Please join us when you can.
