Ensemble Fantasmi

September 18, 2005

Where: Fine Arts Center - Willard Wankelman Gallery

The "Ensemble Fantasmi" will present a retrospective concert and presentation this Sunday September 18th in the Wankelman Gallery of the BGSU School of Art at 4:00 pm. The ensemble represents the faculty and students of the 2005 summer program entitled "Music and Art in Florence". For this course, ten BGSU music students joined professors Mary Natvig, Marilyn Shrude and John Sampen at Studio Art Centers International (SACI) in Italy where they pursued music composition, performance, music history and Renaissance art history.

The concert will highlight historical research and original musical compositions completed during this studies abroad program. Participating music historians will discuss their work, the composers will introduce their creations and the performers will offer American premieres of four new saxophone works and three Renaissance transcriptions.

This program is free and open to the public.

Leading Lights: BGSU Alumni Artists Invitational Exhibition

August 30 through October 1, 2005

Where: Fine Arts Center - Dorothy Uber Bryan Gallery

This invitational exhibition features 33 successful artists in all stages of their careers. Spanning graduation dates from 1958 through 2003, the artists work includes remarkable diversity, from enormous paintings, to small brooches, to annual reports.

The artists in this exhibition were selected by current BGSU art faculty members in each of the four divisions: Three-Dimensional Studies, Two-Dimensional Studies, Digital Arts and Graphic Design. Choosing from the hundreds of outstanding graduates over the years was a very difficult task, and many very successful graduates will have to wait for the next alumni show only because even the spectacular Dorothy Uber Bryan Gallery cannot hold all of the work that the BGSU School of Art would like to show off.

Friday, September 30
3-5pm Panel Discussion
5-7pm Reception

This exhibit was made possible with generous support from the BGSU Alumni Association, College of Arts & Sciences, Graduate College, School of Art and Medici Circle.

Gallery hours: 10-4 Tue.-Sat., 1-4 Sun.
