Jacob Lawrence: Three Series Of Prints - Genesis, Hiroshima, and Toussaint L'Ouverture

August 23 through September 18, 2005

Where: Fine Arts Center - Willard Wankelman Gallery

Jacob Lawrence produced a body of prints both highly dramatic and intensely personal, reflecting the lessons of history and his own experience. From depictions of civil rights confrontations to scenes of daily life, these images present a vision of a universal struggle toward unity and equality.

This exhibition of 44 prints is curated by Peter Nesbett, editor of Jacob Lawrence: The Complete Prints (1963-2000) / The Catalogue Raisonne, from the collection of Alitash Kebede of Los Angeles, California, and is organized by Landau Traveling Exhibitions.

The BGSU School of Art Presents...
New Talent 2005: Incoming Freshman Talent Award Scholarship Recipients

This exhibition is comprised of artwork created by incoming freshman BFA degree candidates who have received scholarships from BGSU's School of Art. Seven out of ten scholarship recipients will have artwork on display. They are:

Melissa Cook from Highland High School
Benjamin Eddings from Wausen High School
Micheline Fahrbach from Fremont Ross
Lindsey Flenner from Twinsburg High School
Lindsy Harshe from Cory Rawson High School
Benjamin Hartley from Sandusky High School
Ana Vasquez from Westerville South High School
The Incoming Freshman Talent Award Scholarship is based on talent exhibited in the artwork each of these artists included in the portfolios they submitted as part of their application to the School of Art.

They have each participated in a Portfolio Review by the January 22, 2005 scholarship eligibility deadline. During their initial Portfolio Reviews these students were nominated by their faculty reviewer to submit a slide portfolio for a second Scholarship Portfolio Review. 10 students out of 21 nominees were selected to receive this special scholarship award.

These artists all have held an active roll in their high schools in art among other pursuits. They have exhibited their work in selective competitions including the Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition. We look forward to welcoming them as part of the BGSU School of Art community this coming fall and to witnessing their artistic growth in the years ahead.

This exhibit is free and open to the public.

BTSU Galleries hours are 8:00 am to 6:00 pm Monday through Saturday and 10:00 am to 6:00 pm on Sundays when the building is open, except University holidays. Call the BTSU Information Center at 419-372-2741 to confirm hours of operation.
