Visiting Artist: Brett Cook-Dizney presents
March 1, 2004
Where: 7:00pm, Room 1101 of the Fine Arts Center
Brett Cook-Dizney is a rising spray paint artist who made Vibe magazine's "most influential" list. His life and work have been chronicled in the New York Times, the Boston Globe, ArtSpace, the Los Angeles Times, and the San Francisco Bay Guardian. Cook-Dizney's work has been described as an exploration of many of the mores that lie beneath hip hop culture, as well as other outlets of popular culture: materialism, consumerism, and sexuality. Blaze magazine calls him a "visual archaeologist...an artist who lets the hood speak for itself." And his use of the everyday world as the subjects of his portraits yields paintings of people who would not otherwise be represented, who would not otherwise have been seen or heard in American culture. Co-sponsors include: First Year Program; Graduate Program; the Medici Circle of the School of Art; Office of Residence Life
