On-site Portfolio Review [LAST REVIEW FOR ENTRANCE AS BFA MAJOR FOR FALL 2003 ADMISSION]

Admission to Bowling Green State University as an art major, involves both admission to the University (University Application) and approval to the School of Art through a portfolio review. Advanced scheduled appointments are required. While it is not necessary to be fully accepted by the University at the time you schedule your portfolio review, it is recommended that your undergraduate application be on file when you come for your review. Visiting Artists/Educators: Mary Sheridan and Cheryl Knox "Art and Ecology: Community Building Through the Arts"

Where: Bowen-Thompson Student Union Theatre
Mary Sheridan, recipient of the 2002 Ohio Elementary School of Art Educator of the Year Award, and Cheryl Knox, her art teaching colleague in the Pickerington School District, have collaborated on numerous art and ecology projects with their students. Mary has developed innovative programs in her school district, working with a variety of environmental and other agencies as she engages young students, their teachers, and the community in artmaking projects with an environmental focus. Mary and Cheryl have created many exemplary integrated units of study around visiting artists, social concerns, students' lives, and community needs. Together they will discuss their innovative projects; the event is free and open to the public.

Visiting Artist: Bekele Mekonnen
March 18 through June 16, 2003
Where: Fine Arts Center
Bekele Mekonnen, Director of the Addis Ababa School of the Fine Arts and Design in Ethiopia, will serve as a visiting artist in residence for this three-month period. Mekonnen is an important Ethiopian sculptor ans internationally exhibited artist. Over the last decade he has been selected to attend numerous international workshops and conferences in Russia, Finland and Germany to name a few, where he has shared his work as well as discussed the new challenges facing international education in the arts. Workshop with Bobby Hansson: Tin Can Art: The Art of the Overlooked
February 28 through March 1, 2003
Where: Metals/Jewelry studio, room 101 FAC
Bobby Hansson, author of The Fine Art of the Tin Can, has made artwork from tin cans for over forty years. His work has been shown at the American Craft , Renwick and Oakland Museums, plus many galleries and schools. He has taught Tin Can Classes at Arrowmont, John C. Campbell Folk School, Haystack, Parsons, Penland and Touchstone, to name a few.

Visiting Artist's Lecture: Bobby Hansson: Tin Can Art: The Art of the Overlooked

In conjunction with Hansson's two-day workshop, he will present an evening slide lecture on "Tin Can Art: The Art of the Overlooked". The event is sponsored by the School of Art and the Jewelry Design and Metalsmithing Area. the event is free and open to the public.
