Dr. Rebecca L. Green is Associate Professor and head of the division of Art History at BGSU. In 2003/04 she was awarded both a Fulbright and a Fulbright-Hays awards to continue her study of the ancestral and contemporary arts of Madagascar. Green is thought to be the first and possibly the only art historian to study the art of the island's people. She has lived among the Malagasy people on numerous previous occasions. Her talk will focus on the burial shrouds of highland Madagascar and their relationship to contemporary Malagasy fibers practices. She holds a bachelors degree in art history from the University of California at Santa Barbara, and masters and doctoral degrees in African Art history from Indiana University.

Katerina Ruedi Ray is a principal, with Igor Marjanovic, of Ready Made Studio, an interdisciplinary art and architecture practice using ready-made forms and situations. Ready Made Studio will exhibit in Chicago: Ten Visions at the Art Institute of Chicago this December. Her published research, focusing on design education and identity politics, includes Desiring Practices: Architecture, Gender and the Interdisciplinary, Desiring Practices: Artists and Architects, The Dissertation: An Architecture Student's Handbook and The Portfolio: An Architecture Student's Handbook. Chicago Architecture: Histories, Revisions, Alternatives and Practical Experience: An Architecture Student's Guide to Internship/the Year Out will be published this fall. She studied at the Architectural Association and University College London, UK, and is a UK-licensed architect.

Artist Steven Thompson is a 2D and 3D multi-disciplinary artist represented by Kenny Schacter conTEMPorary of NY/London (www.rovetv.net). Mr. Thompson has worked for, and collaborated with Matthew Barney, the rock band REM, and film maker Jim Herbert. He will talk about his work on Wednesday, Nov 10th at 6PM in room 1101 and meet with graduate students on Nov. 11th. Sign up sheets will appear near graduate studios next week.

Visiting Artist: Painter, Steven Bigler

Artist Steven Bigler is a landscape painter who has worked extensively in Italy in and around Tuscany. His realist work has been shown in numerous galleries across the U.S. and he is represented by Katharina Rich Perlow Gallery in New York. He will be presenting a lecture about his own work on Monday November 8th at 6 p.m. in 1101.
He will be available for individual talks with graduate students on Monday and Tuesday mornings and sign up sheets will be near the Graduate Office next week.
His visit is made possible through support by the Medici Circle, the Department of Painting, 2DAA Student Organization, and the Office of the Provost Speed Grant.

Please join the photography students in welcoming Nicholas Nixon to Bowling Green. He will present a lecture about his work on Thursday, November 4 in Olscamp Hall room 221 at 7 p.m.
Nixon is an internationally known photographic artist whose work is included in, the Museum of Modern Art, NY; the Metropolitian Museum of Art, NY; the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Boston Museum of Art, among others. He is the recipient of two Guggenheim fellowships and three NEA fellowships. Nixon has worked with 8" x 10" , 11"x 14" and 16"x 20" cameras over a thirty year career. His pictures are full of the immediacy and energy that one finds in small format work. His projects include an annual portrait of his wife, Bebe, and her four sisters, photographs of Boston, it's people and environs, cityscapes, portraits of people with AIDS, and, recently, intimate portraits of couples. His publications include: People with AIDS, Family Pictures, Pictures of People and School.
