Arts Xtravaganza
December 3, 2010
Where: Fine Arts Center
Time: 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM
The Bowling Green State University School of Art will host its sixth annual Arts Xtravaganza from 6-10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 3, at the campus Fine Arts Center. Showcasing BGSU’s arts programs, the evening offers community members a chance to do some holiday shopping while enjoying demonstrations, performances and hands-on activities.
The entire school will be open to the public, showcasing the range of work by School of Art faculty, staff and students. In addition, the evening will present student performers from the College of Musical Arts and Department of Theatre and Film, as well as the Creative Writing Program.
Featured artwork will include the annual faculty and staff exhibition, opening that evening in the Dorothy Uber Bryan Gallery. Providing accompaniment in the gallery foyer will be several ensembles from the College of Musical Arts. Music will also fill the Willard Wankelman Gallery lobby throughout the evening, while groups from the Department of Theatre and Film will perform in Room 2000.
Clubs and organizations, from the Clay Club to the University Film Organization, will be hosting activities throughout the building as well. The Print Society will host a “Tee-Party,” a T-shirt and print sale, in Room 1211. The Sculpture Club will light up the night with an outdoor metal pour demonstration, behind the sculpture lab, from 7:30-8 p.m. The Student Art Glass Association will hold glass-blowing demonstrations all evening in rooms 1200 and 1206.
Holiday shoppers can make selections from various artwork sales that help support student organizations in the building.
Other highlights include demonstrations in Second Life—a three-dimensional, virtual environment—in rooms 1104 and 129, and a tea ceremony from 6-8 p.m. in the Hiroko Nakamoto Gallery. Visitors can have their photo taken showing them on record album covers from the Music Library and Sound Recordings Archives.
