Undergraduate Scholarships

Bowling Green State University's School of Art offers an extensive range of scholarships and awards. The list below provides for each award: the award name, the eligibility and submission criteria, and anticipated monetary total for the award. Please note students who meet the minimum requirements listed are automatically considered for these awards unless otherwise noted.

Incoming Freshman Talent Award Scholarship

Number of Awards: 10
Amount of each award: Minimum $1000
Term of Award Tuition waver for the first year of full-time study as a BFA degree candidate.
Eligibility High school seniors accepted into BGSU School of Art BFA program. Nomination by faculty reviewer as a result of a BFA Portfolio Review.

Scholarship consideration for the 2008-09 academic year is given to those applicants whose portfolio is approved by March 1, 2008 or submitting a mail-in portfolio that is received by the School of Art Office before or by March 1, 2008.


Incoming Freshman Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition Scholarship

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: Minimum $1000
Term of Award Tuition waver for the first year of full-time study as a BFA degree candidate.
Eligibility Applicant to BGSU and is the highest ranking incoming freshman exhibiting in the 2005 Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition

The recipient of this scholarship will be determined soon after the jury process for the 2006 Ohio Governor's Youth Art Exhibition is completed.

Freshman Talent Award Scholarship

Number of Awards: 10
Amount of each award: Minimum $1000
Term of Award Awarded in the spring of the freshman year to be applied towards tuition for the sophomore year.
Eligibility Fulltime freshman students in the School of Art BFA program.

The scholarship recipient will be announced in April.



Sophomore Talent Award Scholarship

Number of Awards: TBA
Amount of each award: Between $500 and $1500
Term of Award Awarded in the spring of the sophomore year to be applied towards tuition for the junior year.
Eligibility Fulltime sophomore students in the School of Art BFA program.


Junior/Senior Talent Award Scholarship

Number of Awards: TBA
Amount of each award: Between $500 and $1500
Term of Award Awarded in the spring of the junior/senior year to be applied towards tuition for their final year.
Eligibility Fulltime junior/senior students in the School of Art BFA program.


Undergraduate Exhibition Awards

Term of Award To be selected from the artwork in the Annual Undergraduate Student Exhibition by the Alumni Office committee.

American Frame Award

Number of Awards: 2
Amount of each award: $75 (Average) gift certificate
Term of Award Recipients will consist of an exhibitor in the annual Undergraduate Student Exhibition and one from the BFA Senior Exhibition selected by the jurors for the Undergraduate Student Exhibition and by the faculty for the BFA Senior Exhibition. The recipients will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

Blue Ribbon Photo Award

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: $75 (average)
Term of Award Recipients will consist of a photographic exhibitor in the annual Undergraduate Student Exhibition and one from the BFA Senior Exhibition selected by the jurors for the Undergraduate Student Exhibition and by the faculty for the BFA Senior Exhibition. The recipients will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

Eugene Fenn Endowed Scholarship

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: $725 (average)
Term of Award Candidates must be full-time BFA student majoring in graphic design with a 3.0 minimum gpa. The scholarship is renewable, if criteria is met. The selection of the student is made by the School of Art faculty with consideration given to academic achievement, participation in extra-curricular activities and demonstrated financial need. Demonstration of financial need is determination through the students completion of the FASFA form for further details, application form, and deadlines go to BGSU Student Financial Aid The recipient will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.
Eligibility Rising Sohphomore, Junior or Senior BFA Graphic Design major



Beverly A. Fischer Art History Scholarship

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: $1000 (minimum) to be applied to tuition
Term of Award The scholarship is dedicated to a full-time student majoring in Art History at BGSU. The recipient cannot be the recipient of a full scholarship from another organization or BGSU. Financial need is a requirement and must be documented by the student completing the Student Aid Report (SAR) of the FASFA. The scholarship may be renewed. The minimum gpa for an undergraduate is 2.5 and a graduate student must maintain a 3.0 GPA. Applications for the scholarship will be made available on February 1 of each school year at the School of Art, BGSU or may be downloaded from the Community Foundation website. Applications will be returned to the Division of Art History, BGSU by April 1 of each year. The student must make application on the designated form and will provide a cumulative college transcript in addition to a copy of the SAR of the FASFA including the EFC number. The recipient will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

Thomas Hilty Drawing/Painting Tuition Scholarship

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: $400 (minimum) to be used for room/board/tuition
Term of Award The scholarship recipient must be ranked as a junior at the time of the Undergraduate Student Exhibition with a minimum gpa of 3.0. The recipient will be a student who has shown the most improvement in the area of drawing or painting over the last 3 years. A committee of 3 School of Art Professors who teach in the areas will select the award recipient. The recipient will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

Kohne Photographic Supply Award

Number of Awards: 2
Amount of each award: $75 (average)
Term of Award Recipients will consist of a photographic exhibitor in the annual Undergraduate Student Exhibition and one from the BFA Senior Exhibition selected by the jurors for the Undergraduate Student Exhibition and by the faculty for the BFA Senior Exhibition. The recipients will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

Dominick and Elizabeth Labino Art and Technology Award

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: $1000 (average)
Term of Award Presented to a BFA Senior, exhibiting in the annual BFA Senior Exhibition, whose work demonstrates a strong blend of science, technology and aesthetics. A committee of the School of art faculty will select the nominees with the recipient to be determined by an external juror. The recipient will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

Charles Lakofsky Art Award

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: $500 (average)
Term of Award Recipient will be the member of the Junior BFA class and a rising senior with the highest gpa (3.5 minimum) and is to be announced in spring at the opening of the annual Undergraduate Exhibition. The award is not made available until the following Fall when the student is enrolled as a full-time BFA student and is attending classes during the Senior year. The recipient will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

Paul F. and Thelma I. Leedy Scholarship (Rotating, next available in 2005)

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: variable amount applied to bursar account
Term of Award Available to a rising senior BFA on a rotating basis. Automatic consideration of all rising seniors. Recipient determined by School of Art faculty ballot. The recipient will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

Dorothy MacKenzie Annual Purchase Award

Aaron Macy Memorial Scholarship

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: $1000 (minimum) to be applied to any and all educational expenses
Term of Award Recognizes artistic achievement in the field of ceramics, with preference given to wood-fire ceramic students. Emphasis is placed on the following attributes: strong work ethic, devotion to community, passion for learning, intellectual curiosity, and an emphasis on ceramic investigation. Students must submit an application made available in the spring semester to the head of the Ceramics area. The recipient will be selected by a committee. The recipient will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

Medici Circle Best of Show Award

Amount of each award: $650 (average) applied to bursar account
Term of Award To be awarded at the Annual Undergraduate Student Exhibition, at the discretion of the jurors.

Sylvia Passerini Davenport Design Award

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: variable number, $300 (average) applied to bursar account for tuition
Term of Award To be awarded at the annual Undergraduate Student Exhibition, to several undergraduate Graphic Design students on determined by Graphic Design faculty for distinguished design entries.

John and Norma Richards Design Award

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: variable number, $400 (average) applied to bursar account for tuition
Term of Award To be awarded at the annual Undergraduate Student Exhibition, to the BFA Graphic Design full-time student who is a rising senior with the highest gpa (3.5 minimum).

Craig A. Schnuth Art Glass Scholarship

Number of Awards: 1
Amount of each award: $350 (average)
Term of Award To be awarded at the annual Undergraduate Student Exhibition, to one undergraduate glass student on artistic creativeness. A selection committee including the head of glass, the Director of the School of Art (or Director's designee) and one student (appointed by the head of glass) will determine the recipient of the award. The recipient will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

Marilyn Singleton/Medici Circle Leadership Award

Number of Awards: 2
Amount of each award: $175 (average)
Term of Award Awarded by faculty nomination to one undergraduate and one graduate student of the School of Art that has excelled in leadership abilities within the School of Art. The recipients will be invited to attend the Medici Primavera Gala where the award will be disseminated and the undergraduate recipient will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

James W. Strong 2-d Studies Scholarship

Service to the school of Art will be considered. The recipient will be selected by School of Art faculty vote. The recipient will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.

Amount of each award: $350 (average)
Term of Award The recipient of this award will be determined by the BFA Senior Exhibition judges for the distinguished printmaking entry. The recipient will be invited to the annual College of Arts and Sciences Awards Banquet in April.
